Appellate Law Specialist

After a lawsuit is final in the trial court, sometimes one of the parties doesn't like the result and wants to "appeal" or take the case to a higher court. An appellate law specialist specializes in taking cases to higher courts. How a case is managed and prepared in higher courts is very different than how they are managed and prepared in the trial courts.

Judge Pro Tem

A Judge Pro Tem is an attorney who is acting as a judge on a temporary basis. Typically a lawyer is asked to site as a judge for a particular day, calendar or case. Once that event is over, the lawyer takes off the black robe and returns to his/her role as lawyer. While acting as a judge pro tem, the lawyer must take on the full role as a judge and is not allowed to give legal advice.
